The Story of Siren+Sage with Hurray Kimmay - The Mother-Daughter Genius Swimsuit Idea

Swimsuit shopping can feel like one of the most frustrating experiences in fashion. For many women, especially those with fuller busts, the options often feel limited, unsupportive, or simply not designed with real bodies in mind.

That challenge is exactly what inspired the creation of Siren + Sage Swim, a swimwear brand founded by mother-daughter duo Deb and Lauryl.

In a recent episode of The Hurray Show, hosted by bra-fitting expert Kimmay Caldwell, the pair shared the story behind their brand, the problem they set out to solve, and the innovative swimwear design that came from it.

A Personal Problem That Sparked an Idea

The origins of Siren + Sage are deeply personal.

Growing up, Lauryl experienced the challenges of having a fuller bust from a young age. By her freshman year of high school, she was already wearing a 34H bra, making swimsuit shopping particularly difficult.

Like many women with larger bust sizes, she struggled with:

  • Triangle bikini tops that offered little support
  • Limited sizing options
  • Styles that simply weren’t designed for fuller busts

At one point, the frustration became so real that sports bras were even duct-taped for extra support.

Rather than accepting that swimwear simply “wasn’t made” for her daughter’s body, Deb decided to find a solution.

She worked with a seamstress to create a custom bikini top that actually fit - and that moment of relief planted the seed for what would later become Siren + Sage.

The Birth of a Swimwear Innovation

Years later, Lauryl found herself facing a familiar problem again - this time as an adult and mother trying to find a one-piece swimsuit that provided both support and style.

That experience led them to ask a simple but powerful question:

What if we stopped expecting one swimsuit to do everything?

The answer became their signature design: the OverKini™ .

The OverKini™  is a layered swimwear concept designed to be worn over a bra-sized bikini top, combining the benefits of two different swimsuit styles.

The result:

  • The lift and structure of a bra
  • The coverage of a one-piece
  • The flexibility to mix and match styles

This layered design allows women to customize their swimwear based on their body shape, comfort level, and style preferences.

Building a Swimwear Business Together

Creating Siren + Sage wasn’t an overnight success story.

Behind the scenes, the duo spent three years refining their designs, working through fittings, sourcing materials, and collaborating with specialists to ensure the swimwear delivered the support women actually need.

Their approach reflects a deeper philosophy about swimwear design:

  • Support should be non-negotiable
  • Confidence comes from fit, structure, and thoughtful design
  • Women deserve options rather than compromises

It’s a reminder that many of the most meaningful businesses start not with market research, but with a real problem that someone personally experienced.

More Than Swimwear: A Message About Body Confidence

Beyond the product itself, Siren+Sage is built around a broader message.

The brand’s name reflects the balance they believe women can embrace:

  • Siren - confident, expressive, and glamorous
  • Sage - wise, grounded, and self-aware

You don’t have to choose between the two.

Their swimwear philosophy also challenges the idea that confidence means showing more skin. Instead, it’s about having the choice to wear what feels right for you.

A Story of Support - In Every Sense

One of the most powerful themes from the conversation is the idea of support.

Not just physical support in swimwear design, but emotional support between mothers and daughters navigating body image and self-confidence.

The brand itself grew from that same spirit: a mother helping her daughter solve a problem, and the two of them eventually helping countless other women feel more comfortable and confident in swimwear.
